Powerful hand to manipulate heavy objects
Jan - June 2020

This is the Claw Hand, designed by myself and a team of 3 other Arm members. We brainstormed, designed, and edited a complex assembly with just a concept sketch and some guidelines as our purpose. This was the first project I took a lead on and my first independent project without constant oversight from a more experienced member. I improved my SolidWorks skills greatly, learning more complex features as well as how to manage features within a complex part to ensure easy editing (in particular the body). I also was exposed to electromechanical integration, specifically wire routes and motor controls.
Results:
-
Designed a sturdy hand for towing heavy loads with one actuated, modular finger and an entirely 3D printed body
-
Developed wire routing for 2 positioning lasers, 1 camera, 1 motor, and 2 limit switches
-
Acted as project lead by delegating tasks, overseeing daily work, and presenting progress and final project to team leads
