Protective electronics mounting in arm
June - Aug 2020
I collaborated extensively with the Electronics Subsystem to ensure that they had easy accessibility to the boards for maintenance and troubleshooting while the boards were enclosed for compactness and protection from dust/debris. I personally ran the FEA on the aluminum strut, allowing us to cut off 1 of the top beams to insert and fit the larger PDU boards inside the strut. I learned a lot about electromechanical integration and how data is sent to and received from motors, potentiometers, and limit switches during this project.
Results:
-
Collaborated extensively with the Electronics Subsystem to design a mounting system for the elbow/hand's 4 motor boards and 2 PDUs
-
Increased compactness and reduced possible damage while retaining accessibility and functionality from the previous iterations by enclosing the electronics within the forearm
