Sleek and functional UV light
Aug - Dec 2020
I modeled this base for a UV light designed to sanitize rooms. The base had to enclose all of the electronic control boards and sensors securely within while remaining as compact as possible, which required regular communication with the team handling the electronics. I also used much of my plastics manufacturing experience to act as the consult on the best way to design features for 3D printing and injection molding and the tolerances each technique could achieve. This was the first project I worked on where aesthetics was a large portion, which was a great learning experience on how to keep all aspects into account and take feedback from the customer, who was very particular in terms of looks and size/compactness.
Results:
-
Converted 2D engineering drawings to 3D SolidWorks models, ensuring easily editable feature structure
-
Advised client on how to optimize parts for 3D printed prototypes and injection molded final products
-
3D printed 25 prototypes and accessories to check dimensions, ensure electronics integration, and display to client
-
Operated and maintained 3D printer to produce dimensionally accurate parts with good surface finishes
